Not more. Enough.
Salaam,
Be honest. Have you said one of these this week?
"I was busy all day. I got nothing done."
"The salary comes in, and somehow it's gone."
"I opened my phone for one minute. Now it's Asr."
Most of us think the fix is more. More hours. More money. A better routine.
It isn't.
You don't have a time problem. You have a barakah problem. And by the end of this letter, you'll know exactly where yours is leaking.
First, what barakah actually is.
The Arabic root is tied to a camel kneeling down and staying put. Something settled. Something that stays and keeps giving.
So barakah isn't more. It's when a little is enough. A short morning that gets a lot done. A small salary that covers the month. A small meal that feeds everyone.
That last one actually happened.
Madinah. The Companions are digging a trench around the city. They haven't eaten in three days. The Prophet ﷺ has a stone tied to his stomach from hunger.
Jabir can't bear to see it. He runs home. His wife has one bag of barley. They have one small goat. That's all.
She says: "Do not disgrace me in front of the Messenger of Allah and those with him."
So Jabir whispers the invitation. You, and one or two others.
The Prophet ﷺ stands up and calls out: "O people of the Trench! Jabir has prepared a meal, so let us go."
"They were one thousand… and by Allah they all ate, and when they left the food and went away, our earthenware pot was still bubbling… as if it had not decreased."
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4101–4102 · Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh · Ṣaḥīḥ
The pot didn't get bigger. The barakah did.
We won't see a miracle like that. But the same Lord still puts barakah into ordinary days. The question is where yours is going.
The barakah audit (5 minutes, tonight)
1. Find your leak.
Take a piece of paper. Write down where yesterday actually went, prayer to prayer:
Fajr → Dhuhr: ____________
Dhuhr → Asr: ____________
Asr → Maghrib: ____________
Maghrib → Isha: ____________
After Isha: ____________
Now circle the block you can't account for. Not the busy one. The one that just… disappeared. That's your leak.
2. Give the first hour away.
The Prophet ﷺ made du'ā for us: "O Allah, bless my people in their early mornings." So put the thing that matters most in the first hour after Fajr, before the phone. Small children and no quiet mornings? Then it's the first quiet twenty minutes you get. Same rule.
Sunan Abī Dāwūd 2606 · Ṣakhr al-Ghāmidī · Ṣaḥīḥ (al-Albānī)
3. Plug the leak with people, not willpower.
If your leak is the evening scroll, don't just delete the app. Fill the hour. One meal this week with everyone at the table and every phone in another room. "Food for one person suffices two persons and food for two persons suffices four persons…" Barakah grows when it's shared.
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2059a · Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh · Ṣaḥīḥ
Not more hours. Hours that count.
Not more money. Money that stays.
Not a bigger house. A home that feels full.
One question
What did you circle? Where's your leak?
Until next Jumu'ah,
Path to Allah
